Often times described as a “mad scientist” by his peers, Nicolas sees design as an almost scientific problem-solving process. Originally graduating with a BFA in Multimedia, Nicolas seeks to expand his horizons and explore the world of UX and Web Design! When he is not building websites, he paints in Photoshop and does the artwork for fantastic card games.

Minding the Maze
Minding the Maze gathers from several fields of research, a means of explaining how we can design websites for human interaction on the web. Starting with how cognition affects our expectations, how our expectations affect perception, how perception effects, interactions, and finally how we can design for those interactions. Built using flexbox.
Under the Grape Vine
Under the Grapevine is a website for a fake “dive wine bar” in North East Minneapolis. Built as an exercise in responsive design using the skeleton boilerplate. PHP includes were used to dynamically generate modular content. Other notable web technologies used include jQuery UI and CSS animations.
Atlas Games originally published Letter Head in the year 2000. But in the 2016 re-release, the cards, the characters, and the instruction manual layout have all been completely redone by Nicolas. BrainSTEM is a WordPress site for a fictitious non-profit that brings STEM topics outside of the classroom. Utilizing the Genesis framework, it is built around a child theme developed by Nicolas called “Apple Tree.” The project includes a style guide for the website’s branding.
U-Turn Games is a fictional game publisher that sells tabletop card and board games. The database is managed using a third party CMS. Mockups were done in Sketch 3 and the website was constructed using Bootstrap. All illustrations are done by Nicolas Gluesenkamp.
